ESCLUSIVA: "James Franco Italia" intervista Val Lauren

A breve dirigerò e reciterò in una nuova rappresentazione tatrale scritta da Scott Caan chiamata "No Way around but Through", con Scott Caan, Robyn Cohen, Bre Blair, Laine Kazan e me.
e.

English version after the jump ...>>

Val Lauren, an astonishingly willing artist and the acclaimed protagonist of "Sal" in which he beautifully portrayed late actor Sal Mineo, accepted to answer to a few questions for JAMES FRANCO ITALIA. He spoke about his collaboration with James and his future projects, included the new version of "A Streetcar Named Desire". Here's what he told us.

In many interviews you've said that you've known James Franco for a long time. How is it to be directed by a friend? Is it easier or harder, because perhaps the will that you do a good job and don't disappoint him is stronger? How is James Franco the director?
Yes I have know James for a long time now, we have been friends and have worked creatively together many times so that only helped when we shot "Sal". A trust and respect for one another's craft and taste was already there and we had established an effortless line of communication so it was a really great time. James was fantastic as a director, relaxed and open with a clear vision of what he wanted to do.

The way the film is shot is very singular. The scene in wich you and Jim Parrack are doing the rehearsals for the play is impressive. Is it as difficult as it seems to shoot such a long scene, not only psychologically, but also on a physical level? Did you guys repeat it many times before getting it right?
The scene with Jim Parrack was a highlight to work on. It was our first day of shooting and he brought such a reality to the rehearsal that we slipped right into the reality of what that process was like.

Speaking of theatre, can you confirm that "Streetcar" was
entirely filmed on a theatre stage? Has this aspect had any influence on your approach to the character of Stanley, that is inevitably sculpted in our collective imagination in the way Kazan and Brando developed it?
"Streetcar" has been an excellent experience, a hybrid of a play and a film. Brando's interpretation of "Stanley" was and always will be one of my favorite performances of all time. The trick was to cultivate my personal understanding of an Ex military man that was doing his best to provide for and protect his wife and unborn child. Tennesse Williams knocked it out of the park when he developed that character.

And now, what's next?
Next I will be directing and acting in a new play written by Scott Caan called "No Way around but Through", starring Scott Caan, myself, Robyn Cohen, Bre Blair and Lainie Kazan. Produced by Garry Marshall and Mike O'malley. We open on June 3 at The Falcon Theater in LA. It is shaping up to be something very special.

Domanda: come avete fatto a contattarlo?

Grazie! :)

  8. Grazie a tutti!

@Eva, magari.
